Mother jailed after faking a DNA test to trick man into paying £7,000 child support

A CRUEL mum accused of “selling her baby to make money” after tricking her ex-lover into thinking he was her baby daughter’s father has been caged for 12 months.

Danielle Morris, 29, even faked a paternity test to trick Jamie Somers who shelled out £7,000 in child maintenance and other costs in the heartless scam which lasted 10 months.

The 41-year-old singer and entertainer was so delighted he had a foot-long tattoo of Darcy’s name and date of birth on his arm.

But the Liverpool Echo reports the Rat Pack style performer’s life was ruined by the heartbreaking discovery that he was not her biological parent.

A furious Mr Somers described Morris’ behaviour as “disgusting” in his victim’s impact statement which was read out when she was jailed at Liverpool Crown Court today.

He said: “She sold her child to make money.

“Danielle Morris took my trust, my dignity, my love and my heart.”

“I will live this agony for the rest of my life.”

The court heard the couple had sex on four different occasions after meeting at his Michael Buble impersonation show in November 2013.

Morris presented him with a DNA paternity test which said it was 99.6 per cent likely he was the father and wrote his surname on the birth certificate.

He looked after the tot for three days and nights each week and as well as buying clothes and toys forked out more than £1,000 on her christening.

But after she refused to re-show him the results of the test, he took the child himself, which uncovered the awful truth that he’d fallen victim to a paternity scam.

The court heard that Morris had described the scam as “the Jamie Somers show” and planned to “take him for everything that he’s got”.

West End star Mr Somers, who once appeared on TVs Come Dine With Me,  discovered the devastating news in August last year when the child was almost two years old.

He was told he was the dad in October 2015 and had looked after her for ten months.

The court heard the stress left his relationship with his current partner teetering on the edge.

Jamie said he still has a box of little Darcy’s keepsakes which he cannot bear to throw away.

Morris was jailed today for 12 months at Liverpool Crown Court after she admitted two counts of fraud.

Des Lennon, representing Morris, said she was “genuinely remorseful” and his client had acted in this way because her own father was absent and she wanted to give Darcy the “chance she never had”.

Said Fathers4Justice founder Matt O’Connor, “Paternity fraud is a serious crime yet mothers are rarely prosecuted. A recent report said that nearly half of men who take paternity tests are not the real father.”

“How many dads are stung for child support and don’t get the money back? We need more prosecutions of muppet mums like this.”
