Tenton Oldfield Sentence ‘Landmark Attack on Freedom of Protest’

Fathers4Justice today warned that the sentencing of Trenton Oldfield to six months in prison was a landmark judgement which would have serious implications for anyone engaged in peaceful protesting.

The group, known for their campaign of direct action, said the sentence appeared to be politically motivated and designed to intimidate and deter anyone from protesting or engaging in high profile protests.

Said Campaign Director Nadine O’Connor. ‘The criminalising of peaceful protestors such as Trenton Oldfield using arcane laws to achieve a heavier tariff is part of an ongoing attempt by the government and CPS to launch a ‘Chinese-style’ crack down on protestors.”

“It is clear to us that the right to peaceful protest in the UK is under attack like never before. This sentence confirms everything Oldfield was protesting about – protest and upset the 1% and you will lose your liberty.”
